The Republican Party in the House of Representatives of the US Congress presented a report recommending tightening of sanctions against Russia.
According to the authors, Russia should be included in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism. At the same time, Washington regards the organization of Iran’s armed forces as a terrorist organization — the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), the Hezbollah Palestinian movement.
In addition, it is proposed to impose secondary sanctions on companies that support Russian oil and gas projects, as well as on the acquisition of new Russian sovereign debt.
The authors of the document insist on imposing sanctions against those whom Washington suspects of “leading Russian propaganda.”
“Russia, especially in the last decade, aggressively asserts its role as a global power with its own pronounced intention to undermine world order under the leadership of the United States,” the report quotes “RIA News” June 10th.
It is proposed to make the “confrontation of Russian aggression” the main issue on the agenda at all NATO summits. Also, according to the authors, it is necessary to expand the containment program of Russia in Europe, as well as the program of military assistance to Ukraine.
It is proposed to introduce restrictions on Iran and China. The document is of a recommendatory nature and is not submitted to Congress as a bill.
June 4, it became known that the bill on expanding sanctions against “Nord Stream – 2” entered the US Senate. It is intended to “clarify and expand” existing restrictions. In addition, this initiative is aimed at those who assist in the construction of Nord Stream 2.
