The scrutiny of the elections to the House of Representatives will continue for days or weeks, but the Republicans have already secured control of the Senate, with 51 of the 100 seats.
For now, it remains up in the air which party will have a majority in the Lower House, but Donald Trump’s party aspires to retain it.
Currently, the correlation of forces favored the Democrats by a narrow majority of 51 seats (counting independents) compared to 49 Republicans.
The positions that need to be renewed now are those that were elected in 2018, in Donald Trump’s midterm legislative elections in which the Republicans suffered severe punishment.
Furthermore, during this Tuesday’s elections, the 435 seats in the House of Representatives, which until now were controlled by the Republicans, although with a narrow majority, will be completely renewed, as they are every two years.
There are many seats whose renewal is assured, because they correspond to clearly Republican or Democratic districts.
The battle is in about 70 competitive districts, but the result will be delayed for days or weeks, especially in California’s competitive districts, where wait times for mail-in voting and recount procedures make counting very slow.
