Republicans for Harris Launch Campaign in North Carolina
The newly formed Republicans for Harris coalition commenced its electoral campaign in North Carolina with a virtual news conference featuring prominent members. Four elected Republicans and former Republicans articulated their backing for the Democratic ticket in the upcoming election.
Key Endorsements from Former Republicans
Among the attendees were former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, ex-North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Bob Orr, former Mecklenburg County GOP board member Michael Tucker, and U.S. Army veteran Scott Peoples. Each shared their unique motivations for supporting Vice President Kamala Harris and outlined the coalition’s mission in the battleground state ahead of November’s elections.
Duncan expressed, “I am proudly endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to be the next president of the United States, for a number of reasons. It’s not just about the policies but the person. Her adherence to the Constitution is vital, and the nation needs a stable hand to guide us to the next step.”
High Stakes in the Current Political Climate
Orr, who switched to unaffiliated status following the January 6 events, emphasized the urgent need for change. He stated, “The stakes are simply too high not to take action.”
Strategic Engagement of Voters
The Harris campaign has highlighted that this coalition will be crucial in reaching out to Trump-skeptical Republican voters across North Carolina. They will engage in various voter contact strategies, including hosting Republican-influenced events, door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and initiating local networks with Republican organizations and businesses.
Tucker shared his experience, revealing that he was among the more than 250,000 voters who backed Nikki Haley in North Carolina’s Republican primary this past March. Now, he is dedicated to uniting other Republicans who feel alienated by Donald Trump.
Building a Sense of Community
Peoples, Tucker, and Orr acknowledged that many Republicans may hesitate to cast their ballots for a Democrat. “You’re not alone if you feel this way. There are others among the Republican ranks who share your concerns,” Tucker assured potential voters.
“You don’t have to step forward like we are. All you need to do is enter that voting booth and do what is right for America, which is to vote for Vice President Harris,” added Orr.
