The Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson (Republican from Louisiana) does not see enough grounds to impeach President Joe Biden, the Washington Post reported.
According to her, Johnson told centrist party members this week that “there is insufficient evidence at this time to initiate formal impeachment proceedings.” The publication reports that the speaker of the lower house of Congress, like some other Republicans, believes, citing the results of polls, that there is little political need to impeach Biden due to the weak support of voters for the president.
On September 11, Republican Kevin McCarthy (D-California), who was then Speaker of the US House of Representatives, announced that he had decided to open a formal investigation before a possible impeachment vote was announced. As McCarthy specified at the time, the investigation aims to establish whether the current American leader has benefited from the business dealings of his son Hunter.
