The statements are interpreted by many as an attempt to stop a Democratic victory on the border issue so that Trump and the Republicans can use the situation in the south in the election campaign.

Now the Republican senator, James Lankford, has also criticized his party colleagues for their opposition to the agreement. He denies to Fox News that the proposal will increase the number of migrants.
