Not only Big Bird, but also characters like Elmo and Oscar the Grumpy Monster from Sesame Street promoted the vaccinations. They did so on Twitter and in a video from TV channel CNN to inform young viewers about the jab.
‘Additional protection’
“I had the Covid-19 vaccine today. My wing feels a little sore, but it gives my body the extra protection it needs to keep myself and others healthy,” Big Bird wrote on Twitter:

Ted Cruz then lashed out, calling it “government propaganda.” Others joined Cruz. Lisa Boothe, a journalist at Fox News, called it “brainwashing of children who are not at risk from Covid-19.”
Coronaprik
However, data from the CDC, the American version of the RIVM, shows that 10 percent of all corona infections currently occur among children between 5 and 11 years old. They have recently been allowed to get a corona jab in the US.

Cruz also came under criticism for the tweet. For example from David Hogg, the survivor of the Parkland massacre. “Cruz is spreading fake news that has already killed more than 200,000 Americans this year,” Hogg wrote. “I can’t believe a senator actually writes something like that on Twitter.”
