Repsol will invest 26 million euros in a new production line for recycled plastics in Puertollano

Repsol will install, with an investment of 26 million euros, a new production line for recycled plastics (Reciclex range) with the capacity to manufacture 25,000 tons per year in its industrial complex in Puertollano (Ciudad Real), “thus turning this center into a benchmark for the circular economy in the Iberian Peninsula”.

As reported by the company, the new unit, which will come into operation at the end of 2024, will almost double the current capacity (16,000 tons/year) and will generate 200 direct, indirect and induced jobs throughout the different phases of construction, commissioning and operation. It will be integrated into the Finishing area of ​​the EVA/PEBD unit.

With an investment of €26 million, It will manufacture plastics that are used to produce rigid and flexible containers for non-food use, such as containers for cleaning products or product packaging bags.

Specifically, it will process high and low density polyethylene (HDPE and PEBD) with a recycled plastic content of between 10% and 80%.

According to the company, this investment is in line with recent European and Spanish regulations, which aim to achieve the objective that by 2030 the containers contain a minimum of 30% recycled plastics.

In addition to the new production line for recycled plastic, Puertollano The first polyurethane foam (mattress foam) recovery plant on the Peninsula will also start up throughout this year.
