Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS Counseling for Women’s Prison Inmates: Knowledge Upgrade and Prevention Strategies

Kupang – In order to increase the capacity of health workers related to reproductive health and prevention or control of HIV/AIDS for inmates in all Women’s Prisons/Detention Centers, Kupang Women’s Prison participates in counseling activities organized by the Directorate of Health Care and Rehabilitation, Directorate General of Corrections, Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia on a regular basis virtual. (Tuesday, 08/08/2023).

Taking place in the Kupang women’s Headquarters room, the activity was directly attended by Plt. Head of Kupang Women’s Prison; Maria M. Nahak accompanied by the Head of the Binadik and Giatja Sections; Septerhani Buky and the Head of Sub-Section for Care of Prisoners and Students; Devi Lian and 2 (two) Nursing Staff of Kupang Women’s Prison.

The activity was opened with remarks from Pahrudin Saputra as the Head of the Sub-Directorate for Basic Health Care, Counseling and Evaluation, Directorate for Health Care and Rehabilitation who said that this strengthening activity is actually not new and because this is also a basic thing for all related to STIs and HIV / AIDS that has been done before.

“This activity aims to update insights, developments and additional information regarding STIs and HIV/AIDS. In fact there are not too many female prisoners compared to male prisoners, but what we note is reproductive health which gets special attention in Law Number 22 of 2022. Therefore, this activity is very important to follow properly, “said Pahrudin.

With the addition of the latest information regarding STIs and HIV/AIDS, he hopes that the ranks of correctional officers at Women’s Prisons and Detention Centers can provide the best service for the assisted residents.

This activity was then followed by the presentation of materials on Prevention of STIs, HIV-AIDS and Risky Behavior in Women’s Prisons and Detention Centers from resource persons dr. Bagus Rahmat Prabowo as Consultant for Prevention at UNAIDS.

There was also a presentation of material from the Second Speaker, namely Adhe Zamzam as Life Coach and Soft skill trainer at Angsamerah Institution who presented material on Health Promotion and Communication Strategies in Women’s Reproductive Health Education.

On this occasion, Adhe conveyed the purpose of the communication strategy in health education, namely to achieve the goal of healthy living by influencing people’s behavior, both individually and in groups by conveying messages. At the end of this activity a question and answer session was held for all who attended and took part in the activity.
