Representatives of Putin and Scholz will seek solutions to the conflict in Ukraine during the talks

Germany and Russia have agreed that Scholz’s adviser Pletner and Putin’s special representative for Ukraine Kozak will discuss solutions to the Ukrainian conflict in early January, anonymous sources told the German government

Diplomats from both countries agreed on a face-to-face meeting in a telephone conversation on Thursday, anonymous sources said.

In a telephone conversation with Putin on December 23, Putin stressed the need to ease tensions in Ukraine and called for talks to take place in the so-called Normandy format, which involves Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France.

Quadripartite talks have continued since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine in 2014. The previous Normandy format summit took place in Paris at the end of 2019, but what was decided there has not yet been implemented.
