Lee Jae-myeong, the representative of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was accused of telling false information during the presidential election, appears in court for the first time today (3rd).
As various evidence and testimonies can be disclosed at trial amid the prosecution’s intensive investigation, attention is focusing on whether the ‘judicial risk’ will become a reality.

Representative Lee Jae-myung will appear for the first time at the Seoul Central District Court as a defendant this morning.
The charge is a violation of the Public Official Election Act following the publication of false information.
Representative Lee said in a broadcast interview on December 22, 2021, when he was a candidate for the Democratic Party’s presidential election, that he “did not know when he was the mayor” of the late Kim Mun-gi, the head of the Seongnam Urban Development Corporation Development Department 1, who was a practitioner of the Daejang-dong project.
The prosecution believes that CEO Lee has been interacting with him since he was a lawyer.
Two months ago, on October 20, at the Gyeonggi-do government audit, the answer to the question of whether the use of the Korea Food Research Institute site in Baekhyeon-dong was changed to give preferential treatment to private businesses was judged to be false.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has never requested or forced any change.
The trial will be held on the 17th and 31st every other week from tomorrow only this month, but the first trial of the Election Act is expected to proceed quickly as, in principle, it must be completed within six months.
Former general manager Yoo Dong-gyu, who has been fighting for exposure every day targeting Lee, is also adopted as a witness in this trial, and a fierce battle is expected.
<유동규 / 전 성남도개공 본부장(지난 1월 31일)> “I think it would be nice if you could get out of the sense of victimization and speak according to your (CEO Lee)’s will.”
As this issue is in line with the investigation into Lee’s alleged breach of trust for driving profits to private contractors in Daejang-dong, whenever relevant evidence and statements are revealed at trial, it can lead to ripples in the political world.
The prosecution’s arrest warrant was dismissed by the court due to the National Assembly’s rejection of the arrest motion.
While indictment without detention of Lee is expected, there is a possibility that the prosecution will request a warrant again in the future as an additional investigation.
