Reports state that Arm has now laid off 40% of its UK workforce
When acquired by Softbank in 2016, Softbank promised to double Arm’s UK workforce by 1,770, up from over 3,500 in the UK last year and around 6,950 globally. There are only 2,800 people left in the UK, around 700 people have been reduced and the number of employees in the global region has decreased by just 550. Obviously, most of the layoffs fall in the UK.
Arma from NVIDIAannounced the termination of the acquisitionSubsequently, Simon Segars, Arm’s chief executive who initially promoted the acquisition, abdicated and was taken over by Rene Haas, president of the intellectual property product group.
However, at the same time as the large-scale layoffs, Arm actually announced up to 373 vacancies in the UK, hoping to recruit more technical and engineering staff to facilitate the design and development of new processors.
Softbank currently plans to bring Arm back into the public offering, but has not yet determined whether it will be listed in the UK or if it will choose to list in the U.S. On the other hand, Masayoshi Son, founder of Softbank, doesn’t seem to rule out continuing to search someone who can acquire Arm. He recently traveled to South Korea and visited Samsung executives, which made the market speculate ifPossibly acquired by Samsung。
