Reports of pipeline explosions in Russia

An explosion is said to have destroyed a gas pipeline running from Russia through Ukraine. Three people are said to have lost their lives in the blast.

The explosion occurred in the Chuvashia district on the gas pipeline called Urengoi-Pomary-Uzhhorod. The pipeline runs from northwestern Siberia to Russia and passes through Ukraine.

Three people are said to have been killed and one injured, According to Reuters citing TASS.

Reuters writes that the explosion occurred in connection with scheduled maintenance.

According to local authorities the message arrived at 13:42 local time and flames were observed. This also shows several videos shared on social media that are supposed to be from the place.

Just a few minutes later, this part of the gas pipeline was closed, the local Chuvashia authorities further write in the information to the press. It is not clear when the gas pipe will be able to be reused.

The Gazprom company, which owns the pipeline, says gas deliveries continue through other pipes, reports Reuters.

According to local emergency services, the line was reportedly destroyed near the town of Kalinino, about 150 kilometers west of the Volga I Kazan.

The fire that broke out should now be extinguished, Reuters reports.
