According to press reports, Al-Ahly club has decided to include South African international Keegan Dolly, the French Montpellier playmaker, in light of the faltering deal with Uruguayan Gaston Sereno, Mamelodi Sundowns star, South Africa.
The South African newspaper “Soccer Ladoma” said that Al-Ahly had hoped to include Sereno before the transfer window was closed in Egypt on December 6, but the Sundowns administration rejected the red club’s offer despite the player’s announcement of his desire to leave.
She added that with the failure of the deal to include Sereno and the continuation of the 29-year-old’s contract with Sundowns over the next four years, Al-Ahly decided to consider alternatives, so that the name of Keegan Dolly, who plays in the French League with Montpellier, appeared.
Dolly, 27, was a target for Al-Ahly for a while after his brilliance with Sundowns and his leadership to win the African Champions League title for the first time in the club’s history, but Montpellier managed to include him in January 2017 in a deal valued at one million and 800 thousand euros.
Dolly remains in his contract with Montpellier for one season, which may pave the way for his accession to Al-Ahly, but the French club may look to extend the player’s contract in light of its keenness to stay in Europe, but receiving an appropriate financial offer from Al-Ahly may change his mind.
Dolly does not participate with Montpellier mainly during the current season 2020/2021, as he played 11 matches (mainly one of them) after 15 rounds of the French League, in which his team ranks fifth with 26 points.
Al-Ahly has five foreign players on its list, and they are: Tunisian Ali Maaloul, Mali Aliou Diang, Nigerian Junior Ajay, Angolan Giraldo, and Moroccan newcomer Badr Bannon, who joined Al Ahmar recently, so that the name of Senegalese Aliu Badji was removed from the list.
It is reported that Keegan Dolly previously trained under the leadership of South African Pitso Musimane, the current coach of Al-Ahly, and contributed with him to achieving the league title and the African Champions League with the Sundowns in 2016, before the player transferred his destination to France.
