EU member states and European institutions should offer shelter to persecuted Belarusian journalists, and in some cases offer medical assistance, the organization said.
“Any financial support for Belarus” should be suspended as long as the authorities of authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko continue to violate the rule of law and human rights, the RSF said.
According to the RSF, about 380 media workers have been detained since the protests began in August. 80 of them were sentenced to prison.
Foreign journalists are only allowed to work legally in Belarus in exceptional cases, and 70 media sites are currently blocked.
