Reporter shot dead during Florida murder report

In the US state of Florida, a reporter was shot dead while making a report about a murder a few hours earlier. Immediately afterwards, a 9-year-old girl was also shot dead nearby. A suspect has been arrested for all three murders.

The local TV journalist had come to the report of the murder of a 20-year-old woman in the city of Orlando. She was shot around 11 a.m. and succumbed to her injuries.

Around 4 p.m., police received another report of shots fired in the same area. This time it turned out that the journalist and his camera person had been shot. Shortly afterwards, a woman and her 9-year-old daughter were also shot at nearby. The journalist and the girl did not survive, the other two victims were hospitalized in critical condition.

The police were able to arrest a 19-year-old man who is held responsible for all the violence. It is known to the first victim, but his motive for the other shootings is unclear. The man has a long criminal record for illegal possession of weapons, burglary and assault, among other things.

It is not known whether the perpetrator knew that he was attacking journalists. According to the police, the car they were in did not bear the logos of the TV station they worked for.
