A reporter encountered an unexpected incident while reporting on the 2022 World Cup. During a live broadcast, this reporter named Dominique Metzger was suddenly robbed. But that wasn’t what surprised him the most. Dominique was shocked when he reported the incident to the local police.
Dominique Metzger was following a World Cup match in the Corniche area of Doha when she noticed her belongings missing. The Argentine woman also reported the incident to viewers. She admitted that she was dancing when her money and documents were allegedly stolen.
“I have a little bag with everything I need, my wallet, hotel room keys, napkins,” she told the news anchor in the studio. “Yeah, I was dancing with people and I’m sure that’s when someone unzipped my purse and took my wallet,” Dominique explains.
In the broadcast, the program also shows how Dominique relates while dancing using her small purse. But the moment it was stolen was not caught on camera. “I didn’t realize at the time, you know you’re live, with music and people around you and I was focused on talking to you, so I wasn’t paying attention.
“After I was done with the direct report, I wanted to reach for my wallet to buy water and that’s when I realized I didn’t have any,” the woman said.
Dominique also tried to report the incident to local security, mostly because there were hundreds of sophisticated cameras that could catch the perpetrators. But when she did, the reporter was initially offended because she was a woman. One of the officers even said that the wallet would appear one day.
“The male cops didn’t accept your complaint. Once I got to the police station, they took me to another place where there were only women. I asked why I was there and they told me I’m a woman, a female cop the officer will help me”
It does not end here. There was something else that surprised him even more. “The moment I was involved in the statement was shocking. They said what kind of justice do you want? We will search his wallet. We have cameras everywhere, high-tech cameras and we will find the thief with detection technology. What kind of justice do you want once found?” he reported.
Dominique was confused at first before finally realizing that she could choose what kind of punishment she wanted to give the purse snatcher. She then said that she just wanted her wallet back and she didn’t want to make a decision on the process of hers.
