Lyon furious after reportedly agreed to let go Bruno Guimaraes ke Newcastle United. The club had to issue a release.
“Olympique Lyonnais categorically denies the false information spread by multiple media, which reported an agreement between Newcastle and OL for the transfer of Brazilian international midfielder Bruno Guimaraes,” a Lyon statement read.
“In the transfer window period, even the slightest rumors are often presented as fact. Olympique Lyonnais reminds that only information officially released by the club will be considered.”
Some British media, such as Sky Sports said Lyon had agreed to Newcastle’s offer of 30 million pounds sterling for Guimaraes. The 24-year-old is also believed to be undergoing a medical in the next few hours.
Guimaraes has played 25 times for Lyon in all competitions, registering four assists. At international level, Guimaraes played three times for Brazil’s senior national team.
Newcastle is currently sitting in 18th place in the Premier League standings. Newcastle are one point behind Norwich City who are outside the relegation zone.
Even though they have a lot of money after being acquired by the Prince of Saudi Arabia’s company, Newcastle are still struggling to bring in players with top names. The situation might have changed had the Magpies been in a better position.
