Some iPhone and iPad users have reported that they can’t open third-party apps after syncing with a Mac with an M1 chip. It crashes immediately after the app opens, making the installed app unusable.
This problemEarly reported examplesIs December 2020, about a month after the release of the M1 Mac. Similar reports have been posted on the official Apple support community and the major overseas bulletin board Reddit.
According to those reports, third-party apps installed from the App Store will not work after syncing with the iPhone or iPad using the Finder. A video that closes immediately when you tap the app iconShared on Reddit。
It seems that you will not be able to update the app or install another new app from the App Store. Some say, “The download status circle is full and it will soon change to a cloud icon (prompting you to re-download because it is not local).”
Another user said that when he connected and synced with an older Mac running macOS Catalina (that is, an Intel chip version), the installed apps worked again on the iPhone. However, even Apple official support has not been able to explain why this is so, and the cause of the bug is unknown at the time of writing the article (as of 2nd).
Anyway, if you have an M1 Mac, it’s safe to not sync your iOS or iPad OS device with your M1 Mac until Apple officially announces that it has fixed the bug in a future software update.
