Report the application of expired vaccines

Complaints about expired drugs come from different sectors of the country, denounced the deputy.

The vice president of the Medical College of Honduras (CMH) and deputy of the country, Samuel Santos, denounced this Friday that, at the national level, vaccines from batches that had expired for more than five months would have been applied.

“At the moment, vaccines that expired in May and also expired in November are already being applied, that is, some have longer expiration dates and others less, but in the same way these biologicals have expired.”

Apparently the argument for applying these vaccines is that they have the proper clearance which indicates that the biologics are in perfect condition.

Santos stressed that “we know that ARSA can issue a document to extend the use of biologics at this time, but that it would not give any scientific justification for the use of expired biologics.”

“In addition to the fact that there is no need to administer this vaccine these days, as they do not cover the strains that currently cause disease in Honduras, we need bivalent vaccines.”

It must be investigated, as it goes against public health and human rights, to have access to adequate healthcare.

“We are making this complaint so that the Honduran population asks, at the time of vaccination, to show them the vial on which date it will expire, otherwise the IHSS returns the vaccines to the Ministry of Health because it will not verify them for the beneficiaries,” Santos said.

The application of an expired vaccine will generate a false feeling of protection among the population, due to the new generation drugs required.
