Report on the “Seminar – Workshop The current situation and perspectives on university teaching in restrictive contexts”

We share this note to present the report about it “Seminar – Workshop The current situation and perspectives on university teaching in restrictive contexts”which took place in June this year at the Luisi Janicki Campus: the university’s founders.

The report summarizes the development of the university education line in prisons by the Learning Support Program within the framework of the Pro-Rectorate of Education. The day’s workplace was crucial to addressing our fundamental view of the development of university education in prisons, offering us a political, academic, pedagogical and practical perspective for its development. In this sense, the voices of the different university actors, represented through authorities, teachers and students, were fundamental to make the exchange both within Udelar and with similar institutions, closely connected to the development of the line.

It points to the need to establish spaces for exchange and listening, as well as creating and designing strategies that encourage and support the paths of students in very vulnerable situations.

In this sense, it is relevant to mention some of the activities carried out within the framework of strengthening the institution of the line.

  • Currently, the call is open for a G3 teaching position to carry out tasks in PROGRESA with a specific profile for working with more vulnerable student populations, with an emphasis on students who are deprived of freedom. This team coordination position will strengthen the teaching work, generating more monitoring of the activities in the area of ​​G1 and G2 teachers, and by designing strategies to monitor student paths in general, under the supervision of co -ordination of PROGRESA.
  • In this process of calling G3, PROGRESA offers support to the team in the area through the coordinator of teachers of the Education and Career Guidance line, participating in the weekly meetings of the teaching team, contributing to planning and operations management. In this same way, an Academic Assistant participates in these places from the Office of the Pro-Rector.

  • Regarding the strengthening of EPL management. It was agreed to print 300 copies of the University Guide for students in prison.

In closing, we should mention that the internal networking of the institution has been strengthened, coordinating activities with SeCIU for advice regarding plans.

In terms of operational and administrative management in support of the development of teaching in prisons, the administrative body, through the Secretariat, is led in
