Report: Mediatek Leads in 4G Chipset Market, Qualcomm Leads 5G Market

Jakarta, Selular.ID – Counterpoint Research reports Mediatek managed to increase its dominance over Qualcomm in the July-September 2021 period, while Unisoc is also reportedly ahead, surpassing Samsung for fourth place.

This report shows Mediatek’s strong performance in 4G chipset shipments, which has resulted in 40% of shipments rivaling Qualcomm, so the research institute notes that there is a growing gap between Mediatek and Qualcomm in chipset shipments in the third quarter of 2021.

Despite the lead, in fact the 5G market is still led by Qualcomm, despite supply chain issues.

Qualcomm managed to capture a huge 62% share of chips with NR connectivity mainly because the tech company was able to get dual contractors to manufacture key components, including Snapdragon 8-series chips, as well as premium 5G modems.

Then it is undeniable that the big increase was also supported by the demand for new iPhones because Apple launched the iPhone 13 series in September, where Qualcomm was a major player in supplying modems. While Apple in this report maintains its third position in the world of smartphone chips.
