Report: iPhone 15 series will offer USB-C, the long-term goal is a portless phone

According to Mark Gurman the iPhone 15 series will offer USB-C. Replacing the Lightning port next year would be a logical move on Apple’s part, as the company would then have a one-year headroom before USB-C becomes a mandatory standard in the EU.

This way, accessory makers have time to adapt and from the outside it won’t be so obvious that Apple is switching to USB-C just because it’s a requirement. It is worth remembering that only the law applies his devices, anything else would be highly impractical, so older iPhones can still be sold with Lightning.

Gurman also predicts that Apple accessories such as headphones will also start using USB-C. However, the target is a portless iPhone that can only be charged wirelessly, according to the source. Apple already removed the SIM slot in the US, the 3.5mm jack disappeared six years ago, and Gurman believes the first fully portless iPhone model will be released within a few years.
