After losing to Bayern Munich to RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, Chelsea will keep their focus on acquiring a central defender, and perhaps not David Alaba.
As previously reported, Chelsea may have decided to walk away from Alaba because of his salary, but an interesting part of Daily Telegraph reporter Matt Law’s tweet below is that Alaba could also be pushing to play defensive midfield, as well as demanding a considerable salary.
Another fascinating part of the tweet was that the Chelsea scouts weren’t “completely convinced” of Upamecano’s quality:

With Upamecano out of the mix and the club seemingly waking up from Alaba, Chelsea could be looking for a forward in the Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund phenom Erling Haaland.
Of course, Chelsea will give priority to center-back and forward in the summer. Interest in Haaland dates back to his RB Slazburg days, but his salary and Raiola are a problem… not just for Chelsea.

Haaland, of course, is likely to be courted by every major club in the world if BVB does not qualify for the Champions League. Chelsea has the financial means to make such an acquisition happen and could also be willing to meet Haaland’s salary demands given his age (20) and great potential.
