Report: Apple AR/VR Glasses launch delayed due to software issue

A recent report from MacRumors revealed that Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the company’s upcoming mixed reality headset may be delayed due to software-related issues. The report says these issues could push shipments of mass of the device in the second half of 2023 .

Apple AR/VR headset: details expected

Kuo expects Apple to introduce the AR/VR headset at WWDC 2023 (which usually happens around June) if it isn’t officially announced in early 2023, and the analyst also expects the company to open a dev kit software (SDK) at the same time, which will help SDK package developers build AR/VR apps for the device.

Mass shipments of the AR/VR device’s components will likely begin in the first half of 2023, Kuo says. However, Apple may not begin shipping the device until the second half of the year, and Kuo expects this to delay the launch even if the company announces that Apple will announce a mixed reality headset in early 2023.

Kuo also expects Apple’s next AR/VR device to come at a steep price point and for the company to ship fewer than 500,000 units in 2023. More details on the product’s pricing and features are expected to emerge in the coming days.

Previously, Kuo said that Apple could announce its Reality Headset during a media event in January 2023 and that mass shipments would begin in the second quarter of the year. The report also did not indicate whether the delay in shipments would delay the device announcement.
