There is no question that Bayern Munich’s Alexander Nübel is one of the top, young goalkeepers in world.
With great physical tools and awareness, Nübel seems like as a good a candidate as any to eventually take over for Manuel Neuer in Bavaria. The issue, it seems, is that Neuer has shown no signs of slowing down and his 24-year-old protégé is in need of more time on the pitch.
Per Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg, Nübel wants 12 to 18 games next season — a number which is likely more than Neuer or new boss Julian Nagelsmann would be comfortable with:
Alexander Nübel’s management wants guarantees of 12-18 games next season if he were to stay at Bayern. However both Neuer & Nagelsmann are unlikely to accept, therefore a loan remains the most likely outcome. There have been several loan destinations already mentioned for Nübel with AS Monaco being the most persistent of the bunch.
A move for Nübel would probably be in the best interest of all parties at this stage. Barring any shocking developments, Neuer seems to have a handful of good seasons left, which could be a major roadblock for Nübel’s immediate career aspirations.
