Real Madrid’s relegation victory in this weekend’s series finale against rising giants Girona left a somewhat bitter aftertaste. An injury to this season’s big hit man Jude Bellingham.
Then it was Brahim Diaz who replaced him – and against Leipzig it was the same Diaz who got the chance from the start in the offensive midfield role.
Then Diaz thanked for the trust and became the match winner with a real delicacy.
Diaz turned up, drifted in and drilled in 1–0 with a delicious left-footed shot from distance. A hit that prompted Bellingham to speak out on X, formerly Twitter:
“My God Brahim,” wrote the Englishman.
How Diaz celebrated his goal? With Bellingham’s patented aiming gesture, of course.
Diaz was then forced to retire with an injury at the end of the match.
Real Madrid won 1–0. The second leg will be played in Madrid on March 6.
