Repeat Offender Marseille Fisherman Fined 20,000 Euros for Fishing in Protected Area

The owner of the Joseph di Trento, who presents himself as the last professional trawl fisherman in Marseille, was fined 20,000 euros by the criminal court for fishing in a protected area.

This Wednesday, the owner of Joseph Di Trentowho presents himself as the last trawl fisherman in the Marseille city, was sentenced by the Marseille criminal court to a fine of 20,000 euros for having fished in a protected area of ​​the Calanques national park, we learned Le Figaro with his lawyer Mr. Pierre Ceccaldi.

Prosecuted in particular by France Nature Environnement Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (FNE Paca), this fisherman has already been convicted several times for similar acts. He appeared for facts dated September 6 last year in the three nautical mile strip of the southwest coast of the island of Plânier, a small piece of land occupied only by a lighthouse within the Calanques national park. The facts were noted by the Marseille maritime gendarmerie company.

Fishing ban

The criminal court also imposed a fishing ban on the fisherman for six months with provisional execution. “It’s a rather satisfactory decision”rejoices with the Figaro the lawyer of France nature environment Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur, Me Vanessa Godier.

The defendant will also have to pay 500 euros in damages to each of the six civil party associations in this case. The judge, however, did not order the confiscation of the boat. Me Ceccaldi indicates to the Figaro that he will not appeal this conviction.
