Apple has introduced the new Self Service Repair program to allow users to repair their devices themselves. You can replace the broken screen of your iPhone or change its battery if you feel able to.

For the first time, Apple is taking a step towards the right of consumers to repair their devices. The Cupertino company will actually put up for sale more than 200 spare parts and repair tools. It has just announced the establishment of the Self Service Repair program which allows users to repair their iPhone and other Apple brand devices.
When it launches, Self Service Repair will be available for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 that we tested. It will then apply to Mac computers equipped with the M1 chip. The repair program will be launched early 2022 in the United States then in other countries by the end of next year.
You will soon be able to replace your iPhone screen, battery and camera
Aimed at the most experienced users in this field, the Self Service Repair program will provide Apple genuine spare parts, manuals and tools to make various repairs. Globally, only 5,000 Apple Authorized Service Centers (ASCAs) and more than 2,800 independent repairers had access to these parts, tools and manuals.
Users will first have access to the parts that are most frequently requested such as battery, screen or camera. You will therefore no longer risk losing Face ID by replacing the screen of your iPhone 13. Indeed, Face ID was automatically disabled on the iPhone 13 when the screen was replaced by someone other than an authorized technician. This was probably a bug that Apple will fix in a future software update.
Finally, Apple clarified that: “ To be sure that a repair can be performed safely, it is important that the customer first consult the repair manual. Then this person will order original Apple spare parts and necessary tools from the Apple Self Service Repair online site. Following the repair, those returning used parts for recycling will receive a purchase credit “. Of course, it is strongly recommended to call a professional repair service if you do not have the necessary experience and technical skills.
