Reopening of Cardiology Department in Flevo Hospital after Norovirus Outbreak

The cardiology department of the Flevo Hospital in Almere will open again on Wednesday morning. The department had been closed since Saturday due to an outbreak of the norovirus. No new infections have been detected among patients and employees, a spokeswoman said.

The hospital has not yet gotten rid of the virus. Two patients have tested positive for the virus in the gastrointestinal and liver diseases department, to which the virus has spread. A third with symptoms are awaiting results. Five employees of the department also have complaints associated with the norovirus, the spokeswoman said.

Stomach flu

These complaints are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. The norovirus causes inflammation of the intestines and is very contagious. It is also called stomach flu. The virus is found in the feces and vomit of someone who has been infected with it. In most cases, the complaints disappear after one to four days. (AP)
