Rent or Buy? – What is currently more worthwhile where

Düsseldorf Anyone who buys a house or apartment today, after ten years of the real estate boom, pays significantly more in absolute terms for one square meter of living space than those who decided to buy it back in 2011. In relative terms, however, there has been less change for buyers than some might fear. This is shown by a comparison made by the analysis company Empirica for the Handelsblatt.

Apparently, low interest rates and increased incomes offset part of the price increase. And in relation to what tenants transfer to their landlord each month, the comparison is surprisingly positive. In eleven of the 21 trendy district cities, the housing cost burden of tenants moving into a new apartment is higher than that of buyers of a new apartment.
