The purpose of the “Ordinance on Corona Emergency Support” issued by the municipal council is to support companies in the city of Bern that have found themselves in economic distress due to the corona pandemic. It is primarily intended to benefit small companies that are not supported in a comparable manner by the federal government and the canton. The emergency support takes the form of rent assistance. It can be applied for using the electronic application form by the landlord or their representative from February 1, 2021 on the website of the City of Bern under Economic Office (www.bern.ch/wirtschaftsamt)
The city of Bern provides rent assistance if the landlords agree with their tenants on a substantial rent reduction in the period from November 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021. In this case, the city of Bern will contribute half of the agreed rent reduction, but no more than a maximum of 3,500 francs per month. The Bern City Council has approved a total of five million francs for Corona emergency support.
At the start of the Corona emergency aid, the municipal council will provide the public and the media with detailed information about the practical implementation of the support program at the end of January 2021.
