The 3rd edition of RENPOWER CENTRAL AMERICA – Conference of Investors in Renewable Energies, Innovative Technologies and Electrical Infrastructure is the event that will bring together decision-making executives from the private sector and government leaders and key institutions that represent the value chain of the energy sector in the Latin American and Caribbean region.

A look at Central America: The energy matrix has diversified in recent years, with the growth of solar and wind energy, and the entry of Liquefied Natural Gas. In less than a decade, photovoltaics have grown significantly, going from 0% in 2011 to 6.3% in 2020; a similar pattern with wind energy, from 2.2% to 6.9%.

In December 2020, the available generation capacity installed in the Central American isthmus was 18,123MW: 41% hydroelectric, 26.5% thermoelectric, 6.9% wind farms, 6.9% biomass plants, 6.3% wind farms. solar and 3.1% to geothermal. On the other hand, according to the Regional Operator Entity of the Central American Electricity Market (EOR) “It was identified that between 2022 and 2025, some 406 MW of photovoltaic generation and 140 MW of wind generation will be added to the Regional Electric System.”

Why in Panama? Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) ha posicionado a Panama in the 5th position in the ranking of countries in the Americas that have an attractive market for investment in the energy transition. To implement the goal of 30% clean energy in the energy matrix by 2030, the country will require an investment of approximately $2,232 million dollars. On the other hand, Costa Rica Y Panama are working on roadmaps and national strategies for the production and marketing of green hydrogen that will favor the region due to the strategic location of the Panama Canal and the abundant resources for the generation of the energy vector. At the same time, this represents another important factor for clean energy projects in the Central American region to support the production of green hydrogen.
