The world of the legal profession of Jerez and the entire province of Cádiz is a little more orphaned starting this Tuesday, January 30. The prestigious Jerez criminal lawyer Manuel Hortas Nieto has died at the age of 57 leaving deep regret inside and outside the courts as he is one of the most beloved and most respected lawyers of the last three decades in this city.
Graduate in Law from the University of Cádiz, He followed in the footsteps of his father, also a lawyer Manuel Hortas Rubio, who opened his office in Jerez in 1955. Almost 70 years later, Manuel Hortas Abogados is one of the most recognized law firms and where he has been working until his last days.
The ‘Holgado case’, the ‘botellón crime’, ‘operation Gürtel’, the case of the ‘Huertos de Ocio’ or the ‘Casa del Rocío’, defending former mayor Pedro Pacheco in these last two, with whom he gave them their first joys after being imprisoned, are only a part, the most covered in the national media, of his extensive career, in which he always stood out for his affable treatment and for being a great companion.
“Great person and great lawyer. Jerez does not forget you. Rest in peace,” the mayor, María José García-Pelayo, wrote on her social networks after learning the sad news.
The funeral for his eternal rest will be held this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.s in the Church of San Dionisio de Jerez. D.E.P
