Dark Souls and Elden Ring composer leaves FromSoftware after 12 years with the company
Yuka Kitamura, composer of the Dark Souls and Elden Ring soundtrack, confirmed it via Twitter. (Or the latest is X), personally, that he has officially resigned from the FromSoftware game development team. After being in the game development team for more than 12 years
Kitamura confirmed that after leaving FromSoftware, she will be working as a Freelance Artist, starting this month.
“I want to express myself through video game music in a variety of genres. I expect everyone to continue to look forward to it in the future!” – Kitamura stated in X
Thank you all for your continued support.
Today I have an announcement to make.
I have decided to leave FromSoftware, the company I worked for, and to start working new as a freelance composer in this August.— Yuka Kitamura (@_Yuka_Kitamura_) August 1, 2023
Kitamura has been working at FromSoftware since 2011, her first work after joining the development team. She composed music for Armored Core: Verdict Day, and later wrote music for Dark Souls (starting in Part 2), Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring.
Just because Kitamura has left FromSoftware doesn’t mean she won’t be returning to composing for that title again, and we’ll probably be hearing her new music in another game soon.
