Renowned Actor Norbert Lichý Dies at 59: Remembering His Legacy

Actor Norbert Lichý died. He celebrated his fifty-ninth birthday last December. Information about his death was published by the Petr Bezruč Theater in Ostrava, where he worked for a long time. The theater was informed by the family of the artist, who was the recipient of prestigious awards. He was given smaller roles in front of the camera, but thanks to his acting, he definitely did not fit in.

Viewers may remember him, for example, as the roller skater and later hockey manager Zbyňu from the TV series Lajna, and he appeared as a tax clerk in the sitcom Comeback.

“With regard to the family, we will not comment further on the circumstances of the death for now. We will publish further information on Friday,” said theater spokesperson Marcela Bednaříková.

A native of Ostrava, he was born on December 29, 1964 into the family of director, actor and playwright Saša Lichy. He appeared on the boards of the Petr Bezruč Theater as a child. After graduating from high school, he was not accepted to study acting at JAMU, so in 1984 he joined the North Moravian Theater Šumperk as a student. In the years 1986 to 1987, he was engaged in the Puppet Theater and subsequently joined the Petr Bezruč Theatre.

Among his notable theater roles were, for example, Harpagon in The Miser, Duncan in Macbeth, Truffaldino in The Servant of Two Masters, Parfen Semjonovič Rogožin in The Idiot, Antonín Důra in Whimsical Summer or Roman Kopfrkingl in The Incinerator.

For his extraordinary performance as Mendel Singer in the production Job, he received the Thalia Award in 2009. In 2022, he received the Jantar Award, awarded to artists from the Moravian-Silesian region. In 2016, the Invisible Actor won the Týdeník Rozhlas audience poll for the most popular acting performances for his reading from the novel Butterfly.
