Riyadh: Repair work has been completed at the historic Gamamah Mosque in Madinah. The project is part of a plan to develop Islamic historical areas in Madinah. This mosque is associated with the history of the Prophet.
The work was completed at the Masjid Gamama in Madinah, keeping the original structure intact. The domes, interior and walls of the mosque were all renewed.
This mosque was built on the site where the Prophet Muhammad performed the Eid Gah or Eid prayer for the first time in Madinah. Gamama is also famous among believers as the church built in the place where the Prophet was shaded by a cloud. From this comes the name Gamama, meaning cloud. Masjid al-Ghamama is located on the south-west side at a distance of 300 meters from Masjid al-Haram.
This mosque was first built in a better way by Umar Ibnul Abdul Aziz. It was built in 86 AH. Later, under the Ottoman rule, Abd al-Majid I rebuilt the mosque to its present form. This construction was in 1859. Various historical centers of Madinah are also under conservation plan.
