The new operators of the Cineplex Royal in Fritzlar have big plans. But one change caused some irritation, especially on social media.
Fritzlar – There is a lot of activity in the Fritzlar cinema, in the background you can hear the hum of a cordless screwdriver, behind the counter the employees are still attaching a few devices. It’s a constant clearing on Thursday around 2pm at the Cineplex-Royal. And right in the middle is Wolfgang Schäfer. His family has been running the cinema since yesterday. “We’ll open for visitors at 4 p.m.,” he says. “Everything should be ready by then.”
There are still little things that are gradually being adjusted. The cinema now belongs to the Cineplex Group, an association of cinema operators from all over Germany. Many of them are family businesses, as are the Schäfers’ cinemas in Kassel, Baunatal and now also in Fritzlar. The previous operator, Joachim Walther, had handed over the game operations to the Schäfers and wants to devote his time to the family.
Cinema in Fritzlar: After a change of operator, systems are converted
Many of the changes in Fritzlar happen in the background, for example in IT, in the cash register systems and in the sales area. Everything has to be adapted to work with the Cineplex Group’s systems. In a large room where the players are located, the technicians are at work, reconnecting cables and installing new systems. “The films are either transmitted over the network or we get a data carrier,” explains Schäfer. In addition, everything must be set up in such a way that, for example, cinema vouchers from other houses in the Cineplex Group in Fritzlar can be redeemed.
New prices at the Cineplex Royal in Fritzlar are causing trouble
With the change of operator there was also a change in the price structure – which caused some sharp criticism, especially in social media. “The new ticket prices are outrageous,” wrote a Facebook user, for example, saying that the cinema would be driven to the wall.
Cineplex Royal in Fritzlar: “It’s not true that we’ve become more expensive across the board.”
This is contradicted by the operator Wolfgang Schäfer, who emphasizes that as a family business he operates sustainably and also has an eye on the next generation. “It’s not true that we’ve become more expensive across the board.” Previously, the normal price was eight euros and is now 7.90 euros. But what no longer exists is a price reduction for the afternoon performances. In addition, a price distinction is now made between box and parquet.
The new cinema day is called Film Deal Day and will be Monday. Then everyone pays 6.90 euros, regardless of the seating category. Sunday is family day, parents only pay the children’s price of 5.90 euros. However, surcharges are due for premieres, 3D or top films.
Operator: Cinema prices in Fritzlar are below average
With its previous prices, the Cine-Royal was well below the average. It is still cheaper than the Cineplex cinemas in Kassel and Baunatal. “All vouchers are still valid – up to three years after the date of issue. The credit on the Cine-Royal customer card remains the same,” emphasizes the cinema manager.
The operating family wants to invest in the Fritzlar cinema in the coming years
The Schäfer family wants to invest in Fritzlar in the coming years and bring the cinema up to date. Because despite the great commitment of the previous operator, many things no longer meet today’s standards – or are simply getting on in years. “But it all happens step by step,” explains the operator. First of all, there could be minor changes, for example in the foyer.
Major changes are to follow in a year. The plan is to renovate two cinema halls at a time over a period of three years – operations in the other halls should continue. The “Club 8” concept is planned for a small hall, an exclusive cinema hall for rent with game consoles, a bar and other amenities.
Cinema in Fritzlar: Room 1 becomes an Ultimate cinema
The Dolby Atmos sound system will be installed in all halls, and the main hall will become an Ultimate cinema – with special D-Box motion seats that can move in all directions and synchronized with the film. There should also be additional luxury armchairs. Sound and picture are identical for all visitors.
“But we will also change cinematic details during the modernization,” the operator continues. It’s about visual axes, lighting concepts and much more. The cinema operators are planning an opening ceremony for September 23rd and 24th, but this is still in the planning stage. (Daniel Seeger)
The Barbie film was particularly popular recently. The premiere at the Cineplex in Kassel was sold out.
