Renovation of “Burg” Property in Oberriet Begins After Permit Approval and Delays Due to Heating System Change

Now that the necessary permits have been received from the canton of St. Gallen, the renovation work can begin, the municipality writes in a statement. The clearing work will start on Monday, August 7th. A total of CHF 3.5 million has been budgeted for the renovation.

In September 2021, the citizens of the political municipality of Oberriet approved the renovation and upgrading of the “Burg” property, including the design of the park and surroundings, at an extraordinary citizens’ meeting. A loan of CHF 3.029 million was approved for this purpose.

Delays due to new heating system

Gas heating was originally intended for the building to replace the old oil heating. After the outbreak of the Ukraine war and the associated cost explosion, especially in gas prices, the municipal council refrained from the decision to use gas heating and examined other heating system alternatives. This led to delays, among other things.

At this year’s citizens’ meeting, the citizens approved an additional loan of CHF 480,000. The additional costs were due to the change in the heating system, but are also due to general inflation and expenses for monument preservation measures, it is said.

The municipal council is pleased that the adjusted schedule for the renovation work can be met thanks to this additional credit approval. He already thanks the residents for their understanding with regard to temporary noise emissions during the renovation work.
