Renovated Museum of Battle Glory Opens in Yambol with Water Show and Official Ceremony

In Yambol, the renovated Museum of Battle Glory was opened with a water show and an official ceremony. The renovation of the buildings and the improvement of the area is worth nearly BGN 2 million and 370 thousand European funding. Of these, over BGN 1.6 million are from the Operational Program “Regions in Growth” 2014-2020. The remaining BGN 762 thousand are from a low-interest loan from the Fund for Sustainable Cities, “Nova TV” revealed.

The major renovation was completed in a high-quality manner and within a period of only six months, emphasized the mayor, Valentin Revanski. “We sincerely hope that this site will become an important part of cultural tourism in Yambol, that it will be a place of education, inspiration and pride for both residents and guests of Yambol,” the mayor said.

The Museum of Battle Glory in Yambol was opened 10 years ago. It is the only municipal military museum in the country and has extremely valuable exhibits. Among them is one of the six preserved German tanks “Yak Panzer – 4”, known as “Maybach”, recalled the director of the museum Zhivko Zhelyazkov. The museum is located on the grounds of the former “Pioneer Barracks” in the city. The place is also associated with the history of the 29th Yambol Infantry Regiment, which participated in some of the most significant battles during the First and Second World Wars.

A total of 14,000 square meters of the museum’s internal and external areas have been renovated, said project manager Zdravka Terzieva from Yambol Municipality. The more than 120-year-old buildings are already decided in blue, as it is the general, European color and the color of peace, explained the architect Sotir Kamburov.

According to him, there were a lot of difficulties during the renovation, but they have been resolved. “The structure of the building was rotten, it was necessary to reconstruct not only the material, but the way of gripping the structure itself so that it could continue to bear. The building was falling from the outside,” he added.

In the external and internal exposition of the museum, combat vehicles from the Balkan, First and Second World Wars, as well as exhibits from the time of socialism, can be viewed. The museum collection also contains military uniforms, many photographs and documents.
