Renovated Hotel Turned into Stylish Apartments in Vítkovice, Krkonoše Mountains

The former hotel in Vítkovice in the Krkonoše Mountains was completely renovated and turned into a house with several apartments. Essentially, only the supporting structure remained, the interior was completely “gutted”, the roof was raised and all apartments newly got a balcony.

From Prague to nature

An apartment was also bought by a man from Prague, an IT developer by profession, who escapes here on weekends and holidays to nature and sports, but at the same time he wanted to furnish it for a full-fledged living, because from time to time he spends several days here and works remotely.

The interior was designed for him by the architect Aneta Dvořáková, with whom he had already implemented several projects, so they are in harmony and she had his full trust. “She was with me on the project from the beginning, when I was considering buying an apartment. She proposed changes, selected and designed furniture, I consulted with her on all furnishings and equipment,” says the owner.

Bath for absolute relaxation

The apartment is a little over 50 m2 and it includes a cellar where you can hide bikes or skis. It consists of two rooms, a large entrance hall and a bathroom where, unlike all other apartments in the complex, there is a bathtub. “Of course, it enhances the feeling of rest and relaxation. To take a hot bath in the mountains, light candles and simply switch off is a dream,” adds the architect.

Plenty of space for a large group

The owner wanted the apartment to comfortably sleep four adults and, if necessary, six. So one room is used exclusively as a bedroom, where there is a double bed and a pull-out bed, in the second room there is a kitchen with a dining room and a living room, where there is a spacious sofa. There was also a need to fit a lot of storage space here, which was achieved mainly thanks to the custom-made furniture.

And since the owner does not rule out offering the apartment for short-term rentals in the future, he always wanted half of the furniture to be designed in such a way that it could be locked. This also applies to shoe racks, wardrobes or shelves in the bathroom. He will keep his things here and the guests will have space to themselves.

Real, even raw materials

As in her other designs, the architect stuck to natural materials. “Wood, authenticity and maybe even rawness are suitable for the mountains. I’m glad that the owner perceives aesthetics in a similar way to me and can appreciate quality materials and their properties as well as added value,” says the architect.

They used natural oak for the floor, the furniture is made of solid wood, possibly in light beige or dark blue. Kerosene paint also appears on the walls in the form of a trowel. The decorations are made of cotton, linen or wool, and the lamps are also good – they are made of metal, glass, wood or natural textiles.

A functioning whole

Design elements and at the same time completely ordinary things are intermingled here, everything is complemented in such a way that the overall feeling is in balance. The result is a compact interior with a very pleasant atmosphere. “The owner couldn’t imagine how all the selected things would work together, but the result really harmonizes and everything fits together. For example, the robust chests of drawers seemed rather extravagant at first, but they fit the apartment,” adds Aneta Dvořáková.

A smart TV that looks like a picture is also interesting. It has a wooden frame and different backgrounds can be set on the screen, which then look like photographs, so that only a black rectangle does not disturb the space.
