A renovated garden city district will definitely come without solar panels
In the Grabenacker settlement, the HGW housing cooperative is renovating more than 80 old terraced houses. These are neither re-insulated nor equipped with photovoltaics. For the Greens, this is a mockery, for the client it is part of a compromise.
The Heimstätten-Genossenschaft, or HGW for short, can now definitely get started on its major Grabenacker project in Oberwinterthur. All formal hurdles have been overcome. The Department of Construction approved the private design plan and the City Council put it into effect in early April. This makes it clear: In the “Grabi” with its almost 500 residents, 87 terraced houses will be renovated over the next four years. The rows of houses along Stadlerstrasse are demolished. This creates space for three- and four-storey new buildings that densify the quarter. Around 70 smaller apartments will be added to the current 141 residential units.
