Wistful news recently came from Iberg: The residents’ association with its 350 members had last summer decided to dissolve – after 111 years, by the way. The last president, Marcel Derron, described the Chiesgrueb leisure facility as his most valuable achievement: “The facility is used extremely well. Something’s going on here. You see and meet.”
The leisure facility continues to run as a club. And has, now the good news, a new attraction in front of the door. The public playground on the site was completely redesigned by the city of Winterthur. In doing so, one did not let oneself be fooled. The renewal cost 175,000 francs. On Wednesday, City Councilor Stefan Fritschi (FDP) inaugurated the playground together with 60 children.
Wishes for children flowed in
According to the city, the previous playground equipment had exceeded its operating life at the age of 18 and could not be maintained for safety reasons. The local children were allowed to have a say in the redesign. The head of the playgroup asked them what they wanted from a playground. The answer: They want to play with sand and water, swing and balance.
Accordingly, a versatile sand play area with construction crane and water feature was ordered, with a varied balancing course and a bird’s nest swing. Three companies competed for the project – according to the city, the winning project that has now been built impressed with the good use of space and attractive playground equipment.
Everything sand in the Chiesgrube? No! Lawn was chosen as fall protection for the swing. In the summer it is cooler than conventional wood chips and stores more water. Thanks to a rubber mat underneath, falls should still end lightly.
