Rennes wants to confirm its momentum

After a very laborious start to the season, the Bretons woke up with fanfare against Clermont on Wednesday and will seek to stay on the same dynamic

Mute in attack during the three previous meetings, Rennes Offensively recovered by rolling Clermont 6-0 on Wednesday. The Bretons remained on three successive defeats in the league without having scored a single goal, against Angers, Reims and Marseille (2-0 each time).

With this attacking festival, Bruno Genesio’s team have tripled their total of goals scored this season, which now stands at nine. Above all, she earned three precious points which allowed her to climb back up to twelfth place after a frankly difficult start.

The summer transfer window had however been flashy, with nearly 80 million euros spent. The old Bordelais Gaëtan Laborde and Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, acquired for 15 million euros each, embody Rennes’ ambitions which are still slow to materialize on the pitch. But both scored against Clermont (who had almost ignored this match), and the agreement between Laborde and Martin Terrier is progressing.

Bruno Genesio is still groping between a 4-3-3 and a 4-4-2 and his team has long lacked efficiency in front but also behind, where Loïc Badé, bought 17 million euros (!) In Lens this summer, struggling to find his marks, in front of Alfred Gomis still not very reassuring in the goals.

The luck of the Girondins will also be, perhaps, in the physical dimension: engaged in the Europa League Conference, Rennes played Tottenham ten days ago (2-2) and could start to stick out.
