About 200 students interrupted a meeting of the Nupes in order to occupy a municipal hall. They were only dislodged the following morning.
Rennes students who contest the pension reform keep talking about them. On Wednesday February 8, 2023 in the evening, several hundred students decided to occupy the municipal hall of the Cité, where a meeting of the Nupes. They could not be evacuated by the police until the next day, at the end of the morning.
It was during a new general assembly that the students of Rennes-2 chose to invest this symbolic place, a historic house of the left already occupied in 2016 during the mobilizations against the “labour law”. This time, the students intervened at a public meeting of the Nupes, organized to contest the bill brought by the government. During the blockage, the approximately 200 students mobilized asked the elected officials present to support this occupation with the town hall. Faced with the incident, politicians (including several deputies and a senator) and activists preferred to leave the scene.

In the process, the town hall of Rennes, anxious to control the situation, asked the Prefecture “the assistance of the police to have the premises evacuated as soon as possible”, noted West France. But the students were able to enjoy a night without intervention, including climbing on the roof of the room, shooting fireworks and tagging the walls.
It was therefore necessary to wait until the end of the morning for the police to intervene, without incident. The firefighters had to be mobilized to dislodge the last refractories, refugees on the roof. The mayor of Rennes, Nathalie Appereindicated that his town hall was going to file a complaint, given the damage noted.
Classes were able to resume at Rennes-2
The mobilization of Rennes students began on Monday 6 February. That day, after the arrival of the rebellious deputy Louis Boyard on the Villejean campus, in Rennes-2, a group of students decided to block the premises and occupy the premises. A situation finally regularized by the university Thursday, February 9. After three days of occupation and canceled classes, “the strong collective mobilization made it possible to clear the accesses to all the premises of the Villejean campus and to replace the furniture in the classrooms”notably tweeted the establishment, specifying that “the tags will be cleaned in the coming days”. All classes were able to resume normally on Friday.
