RENNES DIDN’T DESERVE BETTER – Rennes Info Otherwise

Without spring, without desire, without reaction, Stade Rennes conceded a frustrating draw in front of Auxerre, this Saturday, March 11, 2023. After their defeat against Marseille (0-1) on their ground, they hoped to regain victory. Nay! The Rouge et Noir (flamboyant against the Burgundians in the first leg) were not excellent offensively or defensively. Certainly they were diminished by a virus. But the technical waste is far too important to put their poor performance on the account of the disease.

In the first half, it was dramatic! Kalimuendo and Spence were a reflection of this Rennes rout. They weren’t achieving anything. They were like their team which was incapable of a single strike unlike the fortunately clumsy Auxerrois [barre transversale trouvée par Hein (18′) pour l’AJA]. After the truce, however, it was better. But not enough. Because with the exception of Santamaria’s attempt [55e minute] and those of Gouri [58e, 66e]they escaped the worst, not conceding any goal from the Burgundians.

For lack of victory, the Rennais do not put pressure on their competitors. “We don’t deserve better,” agrees Bruno Genesio. “We are not doing too badly, because it could have been more serious. It’s a disappointment for everyone. I’m more used to taking a step back from the result, when it’s good or not so good. Today, it’s the face that the Rouge et Noir have shown that doesn’t satisfy me, that annoys me and frustrates me. »

Once again, Bruno Genesio flogs himself! “If my training shows this face, it is because I was the first to not perform well. We saw a team that purrs, that makes very few runs and sacrifices, which was our strong point a while ago. We must find simplicity and humility. Football is also played with the head and the commitment necessary to win a game. It’s the mind, the desire, the will to transcend oneself, to go beyond one’s limits and put oneself in the red. We did not have the face of a team fighting for the top of the table. All of this is getting really worrying, especially before the game against Paris–Saint-Germain.
