Rennes: 1
Strasbourg: 0
By coming to the end of the Strasbourg of Julien Stphan, the former coach of the Rouge et Noir, Rennes signed, this Sunday, a third victory in a row in Ligue1. Saved twice by their goalkeeper Matz Sels, the Alsatians lost at the end of the match on a header from Nayef Aguerd.
Arrived all smiles, Julien Stphan had yet not sulked his pleasure to find Roazhon Park, which returned it to him with a brief ovation at the kickoff. On the pitch, the reception was less friendly: during the first half hour of fire, the Rennes people printed an infernal rhythm, with an imperial Kamaldeen Sulemana in his left lane.
But, despite the pressing, movement, speed and combinations, the Strasbourg defense held on. And when it was not enough, Sels therefore released two standard parades: on a head from Laborde (18) then another from Aguerd (25).
At the end of the first period, the pace slackened and the discussions leveled off, although Rennes still proved to be the most dangerous with a resumption of the steal by Laborde which ended up on the back of Warmed Omari (45).
During the second act, the Rennais did not stop pressing, the image of a beautiful collective movement concluded with a non-frame strike from Jonas Martin (68) or a new head from Aguerd above the frame (73).
But they almost got punished: Ludovic Ajorque narrowly missed a cross from Habib Diallo (70), Sanjin Prcic saw a goal canceled for a slight offside on the handover (71) while Diallo did not find the frame (79).
After a rescue from Alexander Djiku on recovery from Laborde, Aguerd finally freed his family from a crisscross head on a corner from Lovro Majer (1-0, 82). And in the very last moments, those precious moments of which Stphan had revealed himself during his 27 months at the head of the Rouge et Noir, it was Alfred Gomis who distinguished himself with a masterful parade on a head of Diallo (90+ 4).
Seven games unbeaten
for the Bretons
It is therefore a 7th game in a row without defeat, all competitions combined, for Bruno Genesio’s men, who confirm their return to form before a move a priori to their door next Sunday in Troyes. The Strasbourg, wide winners of Stphanois in perdition last week (5-1), are however stopped in their dynamics and find the second part of the table.
