Deportes Rengo fared poorly when playing away at the municipal stadium in La Pintana. On Monday night, the gold and sky team saw how the dream of promotion began to move away since the defeat against Lautaro de Buin by 3-2 and the victories of Melipilla and Deportes Concepción left them 11 points from the top with seven games still to play.
Although it is true that the math still works, the solidity of the leaders and the irregularity of the lame practically sentence the option of reaching the B for the first time.
In the southern sector of the capital, the local team opened the scoring. In the 2nd minute, Nicolás Gutiérrez took a shot from outside the area that goalkeeper Leandro Cañete could not stop.
Then, in the 36th minute, and after a good collective action, Rengo tied the score through Jeckar Amaya.
Later, and after resuming the match after the break, defender Jaime Soto tried to clear a free kick and the ball went inside the goal, an own goal and in the 48th minute it was 2-1 for Toqui.
In addition, in the 71st minute, a gross error by referee Nicolás Gamboa – who did not sanction a clear foul against a lame defender – gave Gutiérrez the opportunity to enter the area alone and easily beat Cañete. With the score at 3-1, the match was practically decided, but the gold and sky managed to reduce the deficit in the 90’+1′ with a goal from Marcos Catalán.
Thus, with the score at 3-2, the match ended and the defeat distances Rengo from the goal that the same coaching staff had indicated since the beginning of the year: promotion.
After the match, coach Martín Garnero said that “it was one of the worst games we played this year, and when we make mistakes we have to accept them.”
He was even self-critical, saying that “we were not up to the level we needed to be, so we have to recover quickly, because we have another match on Sunday.”
