The unions had been announcing it since mid-October: Renfe strike on November 7 and 11. It was impossible not to see the posters and announcements for the call, but last Friday the news broke that the stoppages were called off after a meeting held between the representatives of the Renfe Group Management and the Strike Committee.
After reaching an agreement, the calling unions, CCOO, UGT and SEMAF (Spanish Union of Railway Machinists), decided to suppress the strike, although they have finally chosen to maintain it. This is a “particular disturbance for travelers as their own mobility on weekdays coincides with the beginning and end of the weekend”, as reflected by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA) in a statement.
Dates and hours of the Renfe strike
The days agreed by the unions in which there will be a general strike in Renfe are this Monday, November 7and the next Friday, the 11th.
Trains affected by the strike and minimum services
As a result of the strike, the MITMA has determined some “mandatory” minimum services to ensure essential services on November 7 and 11.
In such a way that minimum services are established at 75% in rush hour for trains of Surroundings —where, according to government estimates, it is calculated that a daily average of 1.1 million passengers board on weekdays—, while it is 50% in the usual service the rest of the day.
for the trains of Medium and Long Distance —which will be used by just over 68,000 passengers on both days— an average of 65% of the services that operate normally and on the trains of High speed and Long Distance is established at 72%. between the trains Goods 25% will circulate.
During the two days of the Renfe strike, a total of 1,143 Media Distancia trains will be affected. But the total of affected travelers during the days of November 7 and 11 due to the strike amounts to 51,804 in Renfe.
What to do if my train has been cancelled?
From Renfe’s own website they have reported on how to act in case you are one of the thousands of travelers who are affected by the minimum services.
For all of them, the railway company has established a series of after-sales measures for affected passengers on the AVE/Larga and Media Distancia lines. In such a way that the train passengers who have been suppressed, “will be offered, whenever possible, travel on another train at the most approximate time to the acquired”.
In case travelers do not want to make that trip, they always have the option to cancel or change the date of your ticket “without any cost”.
