Renewed Attacks and Explosions: Ukrainian Marches on Russian Capital and Russian Strikes in Eastern Ukraine

Ukrainian attacks were renewed with marches on the Russian capital, which left an explosion in the business district near the Kremlin and closed the capital’s airports, while Russian strikes led to deaths in eastern Ukraine.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that 3 Ukrainian marches targeting Moscow were destroyed, and one of them hit a building in the center of the capital.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin also said that a drone crashed into a building under construction in the center of the capital, early Wednesday morning.

Sobyanin added that the air defenses shot down a drone over the Moscow region on the sixth night of the Ukrainian attacks on the capital.

On the other hand, the Russian RIA Novosti agency said that an explosion sounded and smoke rose in Moscow’s business district, 5 kilometers from the Kremlin.

And the Russian news agency Tass – quoting unnamed officials – said that Moscow airports suspended flights early today.

Major airports across the Russian capital have repeatedly suspended incoming and outgoing flights over the past days due to attacks by Ukrainian drones.

Reuters quoted a US State Department spokesman as saying that his country does not encourage Ukrainian attacks with marches inside Russia.

And in the Liman region in eastern Ukraine, 3 people were killed and two others were wounded on Tuesday evening in Russian strikes that targeted two villages in the region, according to what was announced by Pavlo Kirilenko, the Ukrainian governor of the Donetsk region.

A post by the region’s governor on Telegram stated that the Russian strikes left “3 dead and one wounded in Tursky, and another civilian wounded in Zaketny.”

For its part, the Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office reported on Facebook that “preliminary information is that the invaders attacked the two villages with artillery.”

Facing the Black Sea

Meanwhile, Russia announced yesterday that it had destroyed two Ukrainian warships in the Black Sea, in the latest confrontation in the waterway since Moscow’s withdrawal from the grain export agreement.

Russia has previously bombed the infrastructure of Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea and on the Danube River, while Ukraine attacked Russian ships in its waters and in the Crimea peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said – on the Telegram application – that the Sukhoi SU-30 aircraft destroyed a “reconnaissance boat” belonging to the Ukrainian armed forces in the “area of Russian gas production facilities in the Black Sea.”

Later, the Russian ministry spoke about the destruction of a second boat, saying on Telegram that an American-made speedboat had destroyed a landing party belonging to the Ukrainian armed forces.

Moscow announced – last month – that it would treat any ship that approaches Ukraine in the Black Sea as a possible military cargo ship after the collapse of the grain deal.

Southern battles

In other field developments, a spokesman for the Ukrainian General Staff, Andrei Kovalev, said that his country’s forces had achieved success in their attack in the Robotino region of Zaporizhia Province (south).

The Ukrainian spokesman explained that his country’s forces advanced in the direction of Robotino, “and fixed their positions at the borders they reached.”

Regarding these developments, the US National Security Adviser said today that the Ukrainian forces “have made gains in the battles in the south of the country, and we will support them whatever it takes.”

On the other hand, the Russian military website, Rebar, reported that Ukrainian forces are heavily concentrated in the northern part of Robotino, and said that Russian forces are striking Ukrainian reserve centers in the jungle areas.
