Renée and Jean Courtiol: Celebrating 60 Years of Marriage and Patriotic Commitment

Le Républicain Lorrain – Today at 7:04 p.m.

On Saint-Denis Day, patron saint of standard bearers, Renée and Jean Courtiol celebrated a very beautiful event in the life of a couple: their diamond wedding anniversary.

Jean was born on December 24, 1940 in Chambley, because his father had fled Metz so as not to be enlisted in the German army. Renée Eckmmann opened her eyes in Germany, because her mother, evacuated from Amnéville, had been deported.

A meeting in 1962…

In February 1962, during a leave during his military service in Germany and before leaving for Algeria, Jean met Renée… Cupid then shot his arrows and on September 28, 1963, they united their destinies in Metz.

A big family

From this union four children were born: Didier, Michèle, Pascale and Olivier. Then seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren joined the family, which settled in Amanvillers in February 1969.

An associative commitment

In 2000, Jean Courtiol, a retired representative, joined the associative world with his wife and they both became standard bearers.

He is national treasurer and since 2013, Renée has been president of the Montigny and surrounding area section of the National Federation of Flag Bearers of France, which has one hundred and sixteen members.

Both make it their duty to respond to all patriotic requests, but also to funerals.

Thus, in 2022, and in all weathers, Renée and Jean Courtiol carried the flag at 138 ceremonies in France and thus covered 7,330 km.
